SisaGuna

An Android app that connects small food businesses with nearby buyers to rescue leftover food. Surplus food is sold at a discount or given away, and what is no longer fit for people is routed to animal feed or compost.

Problem

Warungs, canteens, and bakeries often throw away food that is still good because it does not sell before closing. This costs sellers income and adds to organic waste.

My Contribution

I built the Android app in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose from scratch to a demo MVP, covering the buyer flow, partner dashboard, listing with a food safety checklist, pickup and courier ordering, and Indonesian and English with dark mode. I also contributed to the Figma prototype, product ideas, user interviews, feedback grid, presentation deck, and report. The backend was built by a teammate in a separate repository.

Impact

Delivered a working demo (v0.4.0) with 106 passing unit tests and a downloadable APK. Data and payments are simulated, and backend integration is still in progress.

Lesson Learned

A clear data layer makes handoff easier. Because screens only talk to repositories, the backend can be connected later without rewriting the UI.
